What is the spirit of life by which man lives, and which is only lent him of God, and at death goes back to the great Author of life? Having come from Him, it belongs to God, and man can have it eternally only as a gift from God, through Jesus Christ. (Roman 6:23). When the spirit goes back to God, the dust, from which man was made a “living soul” in the beginning, goes back as it was, to the earth, and the individual no longer exists as a living, conscious, thinking being, except as he exists in the mind, plan, and purpose of God through Christ and the resurrection. In this sense “all live unto him” (Luke 20:38), for all are to be raised from the dead. (See John 5:28, 29; Acts 24:15; Romans 4:17). 1. What is a soul? “And the LORD God formed man of the _____ of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the ________ of life; and man became a living soul” (Gen. 2:7).

4. What happens when a person dies? “Then shall the _____ return to the earth as it was: and the ______ shall return unto God who gave it” (Eccl. 12:7).
5. Do good people go directly to heaven at death? “All that are in the ______ shall hear his voice, and shall come forth” (John 5:28, 29). “The patriarch David, that he is both dead and ________, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. For David is not ascended into the heavens.” (Acts 2:29, 34).
6. Can the dead communicate with the living? Do they know anything? “Man lieth down, and riseth not.” His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them” (Job 14:12, 21). “The dead know not any thing…their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun” (Eccl. 9:5, 6).
7. What was the devil’s first lie? “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall ____ surely die.” (Gen. 3:4).
8. Who only has immortality? “That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our ______ Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality” (1 Tim. 6:14-17).
9. How do we get immortality? “ But is now made manifest by the appearing of our _______ Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Tim. 1:10).
