Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? (Romans 6:16) Christians, unlike non-Christians, are suppose to be Christ followers of the Bible and the Bible only. However, many Christians today are following the ways of the world. For example, if a non-Christian decides to buy a new home, he usually goes to the bank and gets 30 years mortgage. Wouldn't you know it, next in line for the same type of home loan is a Christian. The question is, does he do anything different? Unfortunately not! In most cases we behavior just like the world. However, did you know that the Bible sets a principle for borrowing money? Most Christian don't know this and because of it they suffer the same outcome as non-Christians. The Bible tells Christian, that he should not be in debt longer than seven years. Scriptures says, "At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release," (Deut. 15:1). The word translated "release" means a temporary remitting. It is often used to speak about resting of the land, (see Ex. 23:11). However, the use of "release" here, refers to a manumission from debt, from slavery, and also to a rest for the land from cultivation. In the account of Jacob and Laban, Jacob served two seven year periods for his wives (Gen. 29:18, 27). |
